Are Levi's XX Authentic Chinos Worth It? A Straight Talk Review

If you're on the lookout for a decent pair of chinos that won’t break the bank, the Levi's® XX Chino Authentic Relaxed might be worth considering.

I say might because, while there’s a lot to like about them, there are also a few things to keep in mind before making a purchase. Let’s start with the positives. These chinos offer a modern twist on a classic design. They feature a relaxed, straight-leg fit with a regular cut through the thigh, giving them a clean and simple look that works for most casual or smart-casual settings.

Made from lightweight twill, they feel airy and breathable — ideal for warmer months or long days on the move.

There are two classic front pockets, along with a hidden zip pocket on the right side — a handy feature for keeping small essentials secure.

At the back, you’ll find one flap and a regular pocket, which add a slightly rugged detail to the otherwise understated design.

The color I am reviewing in this post is called Ecru or beige — a versatile shade that pairs well with most shirts, polos, or knitwear. But I also have them in seven other neutral colours.

In terms of fit, they sit mid-rise and are regular through the thigh, with measurements (based on size 32) as follows: 11 1/4" front rise, 18 1/2" knee, and a 16" leg opening. They’re made in Bangladesh from 100% cotton twill, non-stretch, and have a zip fly closure.

Now, onto the drawbacks: The first thing I noticed was the length. Compared to my Levi’s 501 jeans — which sit just below the ankle bone — these chinos feel slightly shorter. They sit above the ankle, which isn’t a dealbreaker, but it’s something to consider if you prefer a full-length fit.

Personally, it doesn’t bother me too much, but if you're unsure, going one size up (say, from 32 to 34 in length) might give you more peace of mind.

Another point worth mentioning is the country of origin. I understand Levi’s, like many global brands, manufactures in countries like Bangladesh, China, and Vietnam to keep costs down and meet demand. However, this can sometimes mean a drop in quality, especially in fabric and finishing. That said, I’ve had no issues with them since I bought them early last year — no fraying, no colour fade, (although they’re off-white), no loose stitching. So far, so good. Let’s hope they continue to hold up.

All in all, the Levi's XX Chino Authentic Relaxed offers great value and a solid design. While not perfect, they strike a good balance between comfort, style, and affordability. Just keep an eye on sizing and fit, and you might find them to be a reliable addition to your wardrobe.
